AMMAN — The imprisoned father of a 16-year-old boy, who was brutally attacked by a group of men who gouged out one of his eyes and chopped his hands, was allowed to visit his son Tuesday.

The boy is recovering from the assault that drew public outrage nationwide. The visit was permitted by the director of the Public Security Directorate (PSD) “in light of the health and humanitarian conditions of the boy and his family”, the PSD spokesperson said as reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

The assault occurred last week in Zarqa, where a group of individuals, all now in police custody, kidnapped the teen and assaulted him in revenge for a previous homicide. Following the incident, the PSD launched a nationwide crackdown on racketeers and repeat offenders, leading to the arrest of scores of wanted persons.
