AMMAN — Ministry of Information and Communications Technology (ICT)  and Edraak Foundation for Education and Society Development on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that aims at utilising the role of knowledge stations in developing local communities.

The MoU was signed by ICT Minister Muthana Gharaibeh and Edraak Chief Executive Officer Shireen Yacoub, according to a ministry statement.

The MoU also includes providing online courses for ICT Ministry staff throughout the year as part of a professional training programme.

Gharaibeh said that cooperation with Edraak will help achieve national strategic goals.

Yacoub added that “we believe in cooperation and joint efforts for education reform in the Kingdom and delivering quality education that meet students’ and families’ expectations”.

She also referred to the partnership with the ICT Ministry in activating the governorates’ infrastructure, which facilitates the optimal use of technology.

Edraak aims at providing free and accessible quality education materials, based on modern teaching methods in Arabic language.

In 2014, Her Majesty Queen Rania launched Edraak as a leading Arabic open online education platform that would revolutionise access and delivery of education in the Arab World by providing high-quality learning opportunities for both adults and school students.

The number of learners using the platform has reached 1.6 million from across the world. Meanwhile the number of curriculum provided has risen to 86 in various fields including engineering, health and entrepreneurship. During the past 4 years, Edraak has issued 186,056 certificates.
