AMMAN — Lower House Speaker Ahmad Safadi and the leader of Algeria’s upper house, President of the Council of the Nation Salah Goudjil, on Sunday affirmed that Jordan and Algeria “see eye-to-eye” on their unaltered and firm stances in defence of Jerusalem, the Palestinian cause and Palestinians' rights to establish their independent state.

Safadi and Goudjil said that the Jordanian and Algerian peoples have always stood by Palestine, and will continue to do so until the Palestinian people receive legitimate rights on their land, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

They also stressed the importance of the Hashemite Custodianship over Jerusalem’s Islamic and Christian holy sites, noting that the custodianship has always constituted the first line of defence for Jerusalemites facing attempts to Judaise the holy city.

In press statements following the meeting, Safadi said that discussions with Goudjil focused on unifying parliamentary positions in support of Palestinians, noting that the Jordanian parliamentary delegation witnessed various Algerian officials' appreciation of His Majesty King Abdullah and Jordan, as well as their aspirations for further agreements that are mutually beneficial for the two peoples.

For his part, Goudjil noted that Jordan has supported the Algerian people during difficult periods, and stressed the importance of the outcomes of King Abdullah's summit with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

He also reiterated the significance of realising reconciliation among Palestinians.
