Hashemite Scientific Councils discuss Hanafi school of jurisprudence

AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, HRH Prince Feisal on Friday inaugurated the 83rd Hashemite Scientific Councils session, organised by the Awqaf Ministry at the Conference Hall in the Islamic cultural centre affiliated with the King Abdullah I Mosque in Amman.

The first session of this year was conducted by Ahmad Khalaileh and focused on the Hanafi madhhab (school of Islamic jurisprudence) of Islam. 

The event saw the participation of academic Salah Mohammad Abu Al Haj, dean of the Hanafi jurisprudence college at the World Islamic Science and Education University and scholar Abdur-Rahim Mangera from the UK. 

Abu Al Haj discussed the Hanafi school of Islamic jurisprudence and said it was the first among the other school of Islamic jurisprudence, highlighting the Muslim states that have adopted it as their official madhhab, starting with the Abbasid Caliphate and ending with the Ottoman Empire.

Abu Al Haj said that if there were two billion Muslims in the world, then between a billion and a billion and a half of them would be following the Hanafi school, primarily located in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, central Asia, Russia and Turkey, as well as in Europe, some Arab countries and beyond. 

For his part, Mangera highlighted the importance of holding the Hashemite Scientific Councils, especially in the present situation, while also discussing other aspects of the Hanafi school of thought. 

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Awqaf Minister Wael Arabiyat, Royal Court Secretary General Yousef Issawi, Royal Court imam Ghaleb Rababah and several officials
and scholars.
