AMMAN — Public Works Minister Sami Halaseh on Wednesday chaired a meeting for bidders interested in the Desert Road renovation project, according to a ministry statement.

Seven Jordanian-Saudi coalitions qualified, each including one Saudi contractor and two Jordanian contractors, the statement said, adding that Halaseh said his ministry started the measures to deliver the tender document to the bidders for pricing after signing a funding agreement during a recent visit to Saudi Arabia.

The bidders visited the project’s site on Tuesday and the day after discussed the details of the project , Halaseh said, noting that the main road is vital for southern governorates and the Aqaba port. Bids are to be submitted in mid-May, while the implementation period is set to last for a year and a half.
