Gov’t committed to strengthening partnership with JPA to address challenges

AMMAN — Ministers of political and parliamentary affairs and government communications, the government’s Spokesperson Muhannad Mubaidin and Haditha Khraisha met on Monday the president and board members of the Jordan Press Association (JPA). 

During the meeting held at JPA offices, Mubaidin confirmed that the government is committed to boosting the partnership with JPA to partake in overcoming the challenges facing both public and private media, The Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.  

He also highlighted JPA role in regulating journalism and “Serving as the cornerstone of Jordan’s press industry and a unifying entity for journalists”. The media has a major role in conveying the state’s message and shedding light on the shortcomings in the performance of some institutions. 

For his part, minister of political and parliamentary affairs Haditha Khraisha said that media is a key partner for the government, supporting the political modernisation process and promoting engagement in the political life and youth and women in particular. 

Khraisha highlighted that citizens are entitled to express their feelings toward the war on Gaza while observing the law and preserving public and private properties.  

JPA President Rakan Saaydeh said that His Majesty King Abdullah has a firm and solid stance on the war against Gaza. 

Saaydeh detailed some of the challenges that face journalists and media persons, namely, issues concerns the Jordan News Agency, Petra, the Jordan Radio and Television Corporation and activating the National Fund for Journalism.  

JPA’s board members also discussed issues and remarks including enhance training and capacity building journalists and the importance of establishing and maintaining departments for foreign languages in media institutions to carry Jordan’s message to the whole world.
