AMMAN — The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources submitted a project to replace, supply, install and operate 305,000 traditional street lighting units, in the municipalities and governorates with energy-saving units, according to a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, on Saturday.

The ministry called on the classified electromechanical contractors at the public tenders department from the first and second categories and specialised energy efficiency companies to submit for the tender.

The call for tenders specifies fitting streetlights with LED units and maintaining them for seven years, Petra reported. The ministry set May 15 as a deadline for the tenders, the news agency said. Minister Hala Zawati on Saturday stressed the importance of this project in reducing the cost of energy in provenances.
