AMMAN — The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) has recently announced it will hold a career day at Luminus Technical University College today to support Jordanians and Syrian refugees looking for work.

The event was organised through GIZ’s QUDRA Programme and financed by the EU Regional Trust Fund, the EU Madad Fund and the German government, according to a joint statement.

The career day will start with short speeches from representatives of the Luminus Foundation, the QUDRA Programme, the German embassy in Jordan and the Ministry of Labour, among others. Afterwards, around 20 companies will offer their career opportunities to young Jordanian and Syrian participants. The employers, from different sectors, will perform on-the-spot interviews for jobs within their respected companies, the statement added.

In addition to the company market place, the event will also include workshops provided by Akhtaboot and OpenSooq on how to find online job openings best suited for the participants’ individual profiles.

A human resource expert from OpenSooq will also share some tips on what best to avoid when sending a job application. The Luminus Shamal Start Project, Mrayti and Bitmoun are also holding workshops on how to start businesses in Jordan and on how to become a freelancer.

Throughout the day, career counsellors will also supervise a CV clinic, as well as provide the participants with career personality tests to find out which career path best matches their strengths.

GIZ’s QUDRA Programme works to provide semi-skilled and skilled vocational training for 5,000 Jordanians and Syrians, to prepare the trainees for the labour market and connect them with potential employers, according to the statement.
