Gas explosion kills two, injures three at downtown restaurant

AMMAN — Two people were killed and three others were injured in an explosion caused by a gas leak at a restaurant in downtown Amman on Thursday morning, according to the Civil Defence Department (CDD).
The deceased included a Jordanian citizen and an Egyptian national, a CDD statement sent to The Jordan Times said.
Two of the injured were reported to be in critical condition, while the third condition was listed as fair, according to the CDD, who added that two of the injured are Jordanian and the third holds Egyptian nationality.
The CDD said that the search-and-rescue cadre concluded their operation and found no other victims, and transferred the three injured to Al Bashir Public Hospital.
On their Facebook page, Abu Zaghleh restaurant, where the explosion occurred, posted an obituary, offering condolences over the death of their employee, Abu Sultan Abu Zaghleh.
Later on Thursday, Health Minister Saad Jaber checked on the three who were injured in the incident and wished them a speedy recovery.
The minister also offered his condolences to the families of the two victims, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
