Gas cylinder licences issued under strict guidelines — EMRC

AMMAN — The initial approval granted by official bodies enables gas cylinders to be refilled, stored and distributed by licenced entities, according to the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC).

“Any institution, union or licenced person working in the petroleum industry can conduct any of the operations stipulated in the Petroleum Derivatives Law after having obtained the approvals and authorisations from the EMRC and other official bodies,” Vice Chairman of the EMRC Wejdan Rabadi told The Jordan Times on Saturday. 

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources is in charge of preparing the strategy and general policy of the sector and developing an integrated system through which to take the necessary actions to maintain a strategic reserve of petroleum.

The EMRC grants permits in accordance with the law, noting that the control period spreads over several phases, during which EMRC officials ensure that the requirements for obtaining a licence have been completed, Rabadi said.

“The EMRC participates in developing the technical regulations and standards of facilities, services and materials used to construct petroleum installations, which do not violate environmental norms,” Rabadi stated.

The EMRC official stressed that until now, there are no plastic gas cylinders and only steel ones are in circulation in the Kingdom, adding that decisions about the usage of new cylinders require new standard specifications from the Jordan Institution for Standards and Metrology, to provide services consistent with safety regulations.
