Fuel prices drop by 11%

AMMAN — The government on Saturday lowered the prices of main fuel products for February by nearly 11 per cent as a reflection of the fall in international oil prices. 

The price of cooking gas, used in winter for heating purposes, was reduced in the government’s monthly pricing update for the second time in a row since subsidies on fuel prices were removed in November 2012.

The price of the 12-kilogramme gas cylinder has dropped by 8.6 per cent, from JD8.75 to JD8. 

According to the new price list made available to The Jordan Times, one litre of unleaded 90-octane gasoline will be sold at JD0.525 instead of JD0.590, down by 11 per cent compared to last month. 

The price of 95-octane also fell by the same percentage, with one litre now costing JD0.660 instead of JD0.735.

The price per litre of diesel and kerosene was set at JD0.405, down from JD0.460 — a 12 per cent drop.

A government pricing committee meets monthly to adjust prices in a manner that corresponds to changes in oil prices on the international market. 

Prices of oil derivatives in the local market are calculated based on international prices of oil, with the addition of other costs such as shipment, handling and taxes on gasoline, according to the government.
