AMMAN — The foreign reserves of the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) have increased to $18.737 billion by the end of June 2024, compared with their levels at the end of 2023, reflecting a growth rate of 3.3 per cent.

According to data from the CBJ on Wednesday, the bank's gold reserves also increased to 2.252 million ounces, valued at JD3.716 billion, compared with gold reserves at the end of 2023.

On Wednesday, gold prices reached their highest levels ever globally, driven by rising hopes for a potential interest rate cut in the United States in September, following recent statements from officials at the Federal Reserve (the US central bank).

Currently, markets are expecting the US central bank to cut interest rates by at least 25 basis points in September.
