FM holds series of meetings on sidelines of UNGA

AMMAN — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Wednesday continued his series of meetings with his counterparts attending the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

During a meeting with Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Bahrain's foreign minister, both sides emphasised their shared commitment to strengthening the deep ties between the two kingdoms. The talks also covered a range of regional and international issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause and efforts to address regional crises. Both ministers tackled their perspectives on the topics listed on the agenda of the 78th UN General Assembly session, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Safadi also engaged in a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, with their conversation focused on bilateral relations, the situation in southern Syria, efforts to bring a resolution to the Syrian crisis, the Palestinian cause, and the ramifications of the Ukrainian crisis.

Furthermore, Safadi held discussions with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, focusing on their “strong” strategic relations and ways to bolster them across various domains, both bilaterally and within the European Union framework.

They also examined the latest developments pertaining to the Palestinian situation and the crisis in Syria.

Safadi commended Germany’s support to Jordan in dealing with the challenges of hosting refugees and for its contributions to the Kingdom's development efforts.

In addition, Safadi on Tuesday engaged in talks with Norwegian Foreign Minister Ine Eriksen Soreide, where they covered bilateral relations and various regional and international issues.

The two ministers discussed preparations for the upcoming ministerial meeting of the Ad Hoc Liaison Committee, dedicated to coordinating international aid to the Palestinian people. The meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, and both ministers stressed the significance of supporting the Palestinian national economy and establishing a “genuine” political pathway to revive the peace process.

Safadi also had a dialogue with Eduardo Enrique Reina , the foreign minister of Honduras on Tuesday. Their discussions went over the bilateral relations between Jordan and Honduras. During the meeting, they signed a memorandum of understanding between the foreign ministries of both nations, establishing a mechanism for political consultations.

Also on Tuesday, Safadi met with Melanie Joly, the Canadian minister of foreign affairs, exploring the potential for advancing bilateral relations between the two “friendly” countries and discussing various mutual interests. They also reviewed the outcomes of His Majesty King Abdullah’s visit to Canada in January of this year.
