AMMAN — A 47-year-old man died and his wife suffered non-fatal suffocation on Monday after inhaling gases emitted from their gas heater in Mafraq, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Mafraq Civil Defence Department (CDD) cadres administered first aid to the wife and took her to King Talal Military Hospital, where she was listed in fair condition.

The CDD called on the public to take precautions when using heaters, such as regularly ventilating the house and not sleeping while the heaters are still on.

Also on Monday, two children, aged 9 and 15, drowned in an agricultural pond in Ghor Fifa in Karak, around 140km south of Amman, Petra reported.

CDD divers retrieved the bodies from the pond and took them to Safi Public Hospital.

In another incident, a 16-year-old died when he fell from the second floor of a building in Madaba, 30km southwest of Amman, Petra quoted Al Nadim Hospital Director Nayef Zaben as saying.

Zaben said the deceased was attempting to go down from the roof to the balcony using a rope, but the rope snapped and he fell.

He suffered major head trauma and was already dead when he arrived at the hospital.

A 67-year-old man also died, and two people were injured in a separate accident when their vehicle overturned on the Maan road, Petra reported, adding that one of the injured is in critical condition and the other is in fair condition.

In another accident, four people were injured when their vehicle overturned on the Zarqa-Amman Ring Road.

CDD personnel took the injured to Zarqa Public Hospital, where they were listed in fair condition.
