Female victims of violence deserve truth and compensation — SIGI

AMMAN — Female victims of rape, sexual harassment, torture and forced disappearance “suffer the most physical and mental pain” and “deserve to know the truth about their suffering and the causes that led to them”, a Sisterhood Is Global Institute (SIGI) statement said on Wednesday.
Surviving victims should be compensated, including on identifying the assailants, and on knowing the fate and location of forcibly hidden women, SIGI said.
On December 21, 2010, the UN General Assembly proclaimed March 24 as the International Day for the Right to the Truth concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims, SIGI said, noting that families also need to know the fate of missing family members in order to sort out legal issues of inheritance, ownership, marital status and custody of children.
