AMMAN — Senate President Faisal Fayez on Wednesday inaugurated the first international conference for the retina (Amman Retina Meeting 2022), the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The conference was held in cooperation between the Middle East Africa Council of Ophthalmology (MAECO), the Jordanian Ophthalmological Society and Jordan Hospital.
In his speech during the conference, Fayez stressed the need to continue preserving the distinguished reputation of the Jordanian medical sector through supporting all relevant authorities.
He said that the conference constitutes an opportunity to discuss the latest developments in retinal research and medicine, the exchange of expertise, and bolster the theoretical and practical skills of doctors.
Medical excellence in its various fields has rendered Jordan a destination for people from around the world to receive treatment, he said, highlighting the need to provide funding to establish specialised scientific research centres, in partnership with advanced regional and international centres.
President of Middle East and Africa Society of Retinal and Vitreous Medicine and conference chairman Faisal Fayyad referred to the conference’s three-day agenda, noting that it would include 11 sessions, presented by 35 foreign lecturers and eight Jordanian lecturers.
Countries participating in the conference include Palestine, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the UAE, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya, Yemen, Turkey, Greece, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Britain, France, in addition to the US and Argentina, he said.
More than 400 specialised doctors from 30 countries will attend the conference, he added.
On the sidelines of the conference, Fayez and the attendees toured the specialised medical exhibition for local and foreign pharmaceutical and medical device companies.
