AMMAN — Senate President Faisal Fayez met with the Chairman of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan Ogtay Asadov in Baku on Friday and discussed bilateral relations in various fields, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Fayez commended the deep-rooted relations between Jordan and Azerbaijan, noting the ongoing communications to enhance cooperation in order to benefit the people of both countries.

During the meeting, Fayez and Asadov discussed regional issues including the Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the Syrian crisis, as well as efforts to combat terrorism.

In this regard, the Senate president stressed the importance of enhancing joint efforts to fight terror, noting that it is a social responsibility that requires a clear strategy and a focus on similarities between religions, rather than differences.

Fayez said that the Middle East is living through prolonged political crises and turmoil which threaten global security, requiring effective international action to find political solutions that His Majesty King Abdullah has called for since the outbreak of the Syrian crisis.

Jordan has been the country most affected by its neighbour’s crises and is still facing economic repercussions as a result of its humanitarian responsibility, with the Kingdom hosting 1.3 million refugees.

For his part, Asadov praised Jordanian-Azerbaijani relations, noting the Kingdom’s role in supporting the refugees and fighting terror.

Fayez arrived in Baku on Wednesday upon an official invitation to participate in the Baku 5th Conference on international relations.
