EMRC receives 849 licence applications

AMMAN — The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) received 849 applications for licences across various sectors during May, rejecting two related to establishing fuel stations.

According to the EMRC's data published on its website on Sunday, the accepted applications were as follows: 474 in natural resources, 132 in the radiological and nuclear sector, 95 in the electricity and renewable energy sector, and 146 in the oil and derivatives sector, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The commission approved 146 applications related to the oil and derivatives sector, including 140 for the first time.

The Ministry of Energy previously launched a public-private partnership council in the mining sector to increase the sector's contribution to the GDP, which currently exceeds 7 per cent to about 19 per cent of the Kingdom's exports. 

The ministry also said that it is working to advance the sector to enhance its economic indicators by increasing exports by 10.5 per cent annually to reach approximately $5 billion.

The EMRC works on issuing the necessary licenses for exploration, mining, and quarries, in addition to setting effective foundations for the optimal exploitation of mineral resources through evaluating and conducting technical studies for the mining sector and providing sound scientific guidance and advice to investors from all technical and productive aspects.
