AMMAN — Preventing and controlling coronavirus have become top priority for the Chinese government and people, the Chinese embassy in Amman said on Thursday.
Chinese President Xi Jinping has issued directives to hold a meeting to listen to control, prevention and treatment procedures for the virus and to reconsider the action plan to address the epidemic, according to a ministry statement sent to The Jordan Times. The meeting resulted in the central committee of the Chinese Communist Party establishing a leadership team responsible for combatting and preventing the plague.
The Chinese government has implemented “strong and effective procedures”, the statement said. It promised to honour its international pledges and meet the legitimate concerns of foreign nationals on its lands, guaranteeing their safety in a responsible way, the embassy stressed. Coronavirus has infected thousands since it first emerged in early December 2019 in the central city of Wuhan, according to an AFP report.
The World Health Organisation notes that the virus, officially known as “2019-nCoV”, is in the family of viruses that include the common cold and viruses such as SARS and MERS.
