Economic council reviews measures to mitigate Russia-Ukraine crisis impact

AMMAN — The Economic and Social Council (ESC) on Saturday discussed the Russia-Ukraine crisis’ impact on the Kingdom's economy. During a session attended by experts and representatives from the public and private sectors, the attendees recommended replacement of suppliers, energy diversification, as well as enhancing industrial-commercial sectors cooperation and maintaining financing programmes for economic sectors and food security networks.

ESC President Mousa Shteiwi highlighted the council's efforts to come up with recommendations for the government to take proactive measures to address the crisis and cushion the losses.

The Kingdom's imports from Russia and Ukraine, including grains and oils, account for less than 7 per cent, Mahmoud Rabaya, an Agriculture Ministry official, noted, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. Secretary General of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research Mamoun Debaei said that the ministry has initiated a platform for Jordanian students at Ukrainian universities, urging medical and dentistry students to head to neighbouring countries with similar education systems.
