AMMAN — A cold air mass and depression is expected to bring rain, snow and a drop in temperatures on Wednesday, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

JMD Director General Hussein Momani was quoted by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, as saying, "Snow will fall on Wednesday night in northern, central and southern mountainous areas.”

Some areas should also brace for westerly winds, with strong gusts of 80kmph, which may raise dust in the Badia region.

The JMD told Petra it would continue issuing weather forecasts in preparation for the depression and send them to media outlets and relevant institutions as they become ready.

The Kingdom will remain under the cold front until Thursday. The weather will continue to be cold, cloudy and rainy, Momani said. Temperatures will drop slightly, with hail and a chance of snowfall in areas of high elevation.

The chance for rain will weaken on Thursday night. However, the JMD warned of frost formation late on Thursday night — especially in mountainous areas — and winds are also expected to weaken during the night.

Cold weather will prevail in most parts of the country today, bringing clouds and rainfall to the northern and central regions, as well as parts of the southern and eastern areas of the Kingdom.

Hail is expected in the northern areas, and winds should pick up and become moderate during the night.

Temperatures are expected to rise slightly on Tuesday, but conditions will remain chilly and cloudy in most regions. Moderate to brisk southwesterly winds are expected, which may raise dust in the southern and eastern regions of the country.

Showers are expected in parts of the northern area on Tuesday as well, and the JMD warned of possible flooding in low-lying areas.

The JMD called on the public to stay up-to-date with weather forecasts by checking updates on www.jmd.gov.jo, through the JMD’s Facebook page or its app ‘JMDWEATHER’.
