AMMAN — Deputising for His Majesty King Abdullah, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Mohammed Khalaileh attended the religious ceremony for the occasion of the Hijri New Year, which was held by the ministry at the Royal Cultural Centre.

Khalaileh said that the Kingdom’s efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic made it possible to celebrate the occasion and resume normal life, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

He added that the occasion provides several morals, pointing to the 13 years that Prophet Muhammad spent calling for Islam while undergoing various forms of torture. Prophet Muhammad’s endurance during this time shows that life under difficult circumstances does not mean one should surrender, according to the minister.

The Kingdom’s Grand Mufti Abdul Karim Khasawneh said that the occasion celebrates an important moment in the history of the entire Islamic nation, which shaped its identity and built its civilisation.
