AMMAN — People should start pulling out their warmer clothes, as the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) forecasts nights to gradually get colder.

Temperatures during the night in Amman are expected to range between 17ºC and 19ºC in the eastern parts of the capital and one to two degrees lower in its western parts, according to the JMD.

“The nights are now getting colder, and temperatures vary depending on the altitude of each area; for example, temperatures now in mountainous areas and in Al Sharah mountain range [in the south] stand at around 6ºC to 7ºC,” head of the weather forecast section at the JMD Ibrahim Sueidat told The Jordan Times on Thursday.

Moderate weather is forecast to prevail during the weekend, Sueidat said.

Temperatures on Friday are expected to be 28ºC, dropping to 18ºC at night in Amman, while winds will be northeasterly to northwesterly moderate.

A slight rise in temperatures is forecast for Saturday, but the weather will remain moderate across the Kingdom and relatively hot in the Dead Sea, Aqaba and the Jordan Valley areas.

Daytime temperatures will reach 29ºC, dropping to 19ºC at night in the capital, according to the department, which also indicated that winds will be northeasterly moderate to brisk at times, raising dust in the desert.

On Sunday, temperatures will remain around their annual average of 30ºC for this time of year, according to Sueidat, who noted that the weather will be pleasant during the day.

Temperatures will range between a high of 29ºC and a low of 19ºC in Amman.

The JMD said temperatures are expected to start gradually dropping to 27ºC during October.

In November, the average temperature is 20ºC, while in December it is expected to hover around 14ºC during the day in Amman.

Last Thursday marked the first day of autumn, which will last for around 90 days.

During autumn, temperatures drop gradually and the country witnesses several Red Sea troughs that cause unstable weather conditions and light rainfall.

The first rainfall is usually witnessed in mid-September or early October, while the wet season continues until February, according to the JMD.
