AMMAN — A cold front that gripped the Kingdom on Wednesday is forecast to continue on Thursday, according to the Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD).

Temperatures are expected to drop further along with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, the weather department said.

The JMD also forecast snowfall in mountainous areas during the night, especially in the south, with westerly brisk winds and gusts raising dust in badia areas.

The weather is forecast to remain cold and rainy on Friday, especially in the south, with snowfall expected during the early morning, as well as north-westerly moderate to brisk winds throughout the day.

The JMD warned of slippery roads, torrent formation, also in Aqaba, and low visibility due, especially in mountainous areas.

Temperatures in Amman on Thursday will see a high of 6°C during the day and a low of 4°C at night, while on Friday they will range between 8°C and 3°C, according to the JMD.

In Aqaba, temperatures will range from 16°C to 10°C on Thursday, while on Friday they are forecast to reach 19°C during the day and 9°C at night.

The Ministry of Public Works and Housing announced an "extreme state of emergency" during the weekend, urging citizens to steer clear of low areas, where there is a possibility of flash floods, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Also on Wednesday, Yarmouk Water Company General Manger Muntaser Al Momani voiced the company's readiness to deal with adverse conditions, Petra reported.

Momani urged the public to cooperate with the company’s cadres by adhering to safety standards and call the unified number 117116 to register any complaints.

He also confirmed that water supply will continue as usual, noting that any changes will be immediately announced through media outlets.
