CID officer shot in hand while pursuing suspect in Maan — PSD

AMMAN — A Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officer was shot in his hand while on duty on Tuesday, as he attempted to arrest an armed suspect in Maan, 220km south of Amman, the Public Security Department (PSD) said.

CID personnel and Maan police were pursuing the suspect, who is classified as “very dangerous” and wanted for 34 drug dealing cases, the PSD said in a statement. When they attempted to stop his vehicle, he refused to submit and continued driving, accompanied by a passenger, while shooting at the security personnel.

The officers returned fire until they were able to stop his vehicle. The suspect and the person accompanying him were also injured and taken to a hospital where they were listed in fair condition, the PSD said, adding that an investigation had been opened into the case. The CID officer was listed in fair condition.
