AMMAN — A number of Ajloun’s inhabitants on Wednesday demanded that the Ministry of Environment and the Royal Department for Environmental Protection (Rangers) stop issuing permits for stone quarries and crushers to operate in residential areas, due to the threat they pose to public safety.
In a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, environmental activists in Ajloun said that quarries disrupt the lives of the people, especially when they are left unfilled, increasing health-related implications and endangering rare species of plants.
Demands were also made to hold violators accountable and increase of coordination between authorities to protect the environment.
