AMMAN — Attarat Power Company (APCO) has signed an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with Guangdong Power Engineering Corporation (GPEC) to construct Jordan’s first oil shale fired power plant, a statement said Sunday.
GPEC was selected in 2013 to perform the EPC of the 554 megawatt mine mouth oil shale fired power plant under a fixed price turn-key contract.
The EPC contract was signed after APCO finalised negotiations with the government regarding the 30-year power purchase agreement which was signed at the beginning of October, the statement said.
The power plant is scheduled to start generating electricity for local consumption in the second half of 2018, according to the statement.
