AMMAN — Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti on Thursday received Cypriot Defence Minister Charalambos Petrides and an accompanying delegation.

Discussions fall within a series of meetings organised by the Jordanian Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) to enhance joint military cooperation with “brotherly and friendly” countries. The meetings emphasised the "deep-rooted" nature of Jordanian-Cypriot relations in various fields, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra. Huneiti said that the JAF’s efforts are in line with international objectives pertaining to combating terrorism, extremism and illicit drugs.

Petrides emphasised the importance of the JAF’s role in maintaining regional security and stability.

The Cypriot minister noted that future plans between the two nations aim to enhance military cooperation, especially with regard to agreements, drills and courses, to develop combat capabilities and unify military concepts, and meet desired targets that serve the armed forces of both countries.

An agreement, meant to enhance military cooperation and coordination, was signed during the meeting.
