Area of licensed buildings marked 56.8% increase in 2021 — DoS

AMMAN — The total area of licensed buildings in the first 11 months of 2021 reached 7.817 million square metres, compared with 4.986 million square metres during the same period of 2020, marking a 56.8 per cent increase, the Department of Statistics (DoS) announced on Sunday.

The department added that the total number of building licences issued in the Kingdom increased by 45.6 per cent during the January-November period of 2021 to 67,716 licences, in comparison with the same period of 2020, which saw 24,284 licences, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The area of housing buildings totalled 6.849 million square metres in the first 11 months of 2021, registering a spike of 58.3 per cent, compared with 4.327 million square metres in the same period last year, the DoS said.

The DoS stated in its report that the total area of buildings licensed for non-residential purposes increased by 46.9 per cent, which amounted to 968,000 square metres in the first 11 months of 2021, compared with around 659,000 square metres in the same period the year before.

Licensed buildings for housing comprised 87.6 per cent of the total area of licensed buildings, according to the department.

The central region of the Kingdom registered 67 per cent of the total area of licensed buildings, while the north recorded 23.6 per cent and the south witnessed 9.4 per cent, according to the DoS.

At a monthly level, data showed that the number of building permits in November 2021 reached 2,368, while the area of licensed buildings reached 806,000 square metres, compared with 511,000 square metres during the same month of 2020, registering an increase of 57.7 per cent.
