Arab Labour Organisation commends Jordan’s efforts to combat joblessness

AMMAN — Labour Minister Ali Ghezawi on Sunday met with Arab Labour Organisation (ALO) Director General Fayez Ali Al Mutairi and discussed issues related to the labour sector, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Ghezawi said the Labour Ministry’s policies focus on helping people create job-generating enterprises, rather than employing them in a quick solution to address poverty and unemployment.

He stressed the importance of self-employment and supporting youth initiatives to establish small- and medium-sized projects that contribute to securing a decent living for them and their families, as well as transforming young people from jobs seekers into businesses owners.

The minister noted the need for partnership with the private sector through programmes and initiatives that train young people to manage their own enterprises.

Mutairi, who is currently visiting Jordan, commended the coordination between the government, businesses owners and labourers, describing Jordan’s as a pioneer.

Also on Sunday, Mautairi met separately with the labour committees at the Senate and the Lower House and discussed the ALO’s plans and ways for Jordan to benefit from them, in addition to creating job opportunities through training at centres recognised by the organisation.

He praised Jordan’s approach to regional issues of joblessness and poverty.
