Arab international conference on cement kicks off

AMMAN — Deputising for Prime Minister Hani Mulki, Minister of Public Works and Housing Sami Halaseh on Monday inaugurated the Arab International Conference and Exhibition on White Cement and Building Materials, organised by the Arab Company for White Cement Manufacturing, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

In his opening speech, Halaseh said the conference holds many “important indications” of the progress of the construction sector in Jordan and other Arab countries, especially in light of the intent to rebuild war-torn countries in the region.

It is important to use high-quality materials to conduct high-quality construction projects, Halaseh said, adding that this requires unifying work in compatibility with environmental and sustainable development standards.

The conference is a good platform to exchange expertise and share knowledge to come up with innovative solutions to contribute to engineering experience at a local, regional and international levels, he added.

Halaseh said his ministry, through the National Building Council, will contribute to building codes and general technical standards for national construction to keep up with evolutions in international standards.

On the sidelines of the conference, Halaseh toured the exhibition that displayed various kinds of construction materials from global companies, commending the large Arab participation in the conference. 

The conference focused on the most modern technology used to make white cement. 

The attendees discussed research papers on the topic as well as quality control standards.
