Aqaba port rejects 12 rice containers from India

AMMAN — The Ministry of Agriculture through the Aqaba port, has rejected the entry of 12 rice containers of Indian origin after finding pesticide residues in the sample examined at the Royal Scientific Society and the Ministry of Agriculture laboratories, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Sunday.

According to the ministry's report, pesticide residues have a serious impact on human health. The containers contain about 270 tonnes of rice distributed over several companies.

Importers were given the choice of returning the containers to the country of origin or destroying the products at their own expense.
