AMMAN — The Tourism Ministry, in cooperation with the Vocational Training Corporation, is implementing a project to train and employ young people in Ajloun and Jerash interested in working in the tourism sector.

Tourism Minister Lina Annab on Thursday said that the one-month project, supported by the Employment-Technical and Vocational Education Training Fund, targets 200 young people from both governorates to help support tourist facilities economically, noting that 5 per cent of the trainees have disabilities.

Tourism Ministry Secretary General Issa Gammoh said trainees receive basic training in hotel and tourism skills, before working for tourist facilities for 11 months, where their salaries are paid by the fund, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Employers must hire trainees for an additional year after the fund concludes training and financing, Gammoh added.
