AMMAN — The Labour Ministry and the International Labour Organisation (ILO) on Thursday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to implement a comprehensive development of the inspection system in Jordan.

The agreement, signed by Labour Minister Nidal Bataineh and ILO Coordinator for Jordan Patrick Daru, covers working hours, wages, vocational safety and health, a ban on child labour, the organisation of the work of juveniles and other work-related items, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Bataineh said that the MoU is part of the ministry’s priorities to develop the inspection system and vocational health and safety to achieve an inspection mechanism that follows the best international standards.

For his part, Daru said that this cooperation “will be fruitful” within two years through a “remarkable development and efficiency” in the inspection department’s detection of cases of non-compliance.
