AMMAN — The Jordanian Ambassador to Egypt and the Kingdom's permanent representative to the Arab League, Amjad Adaileh, on Saturday stressed the "deep-rooted" relationship between Jordan and Egypt.
In an interview with the Egyptian Middle East News Agency, he lauded the leadership of both countries for fostering the significant growth and prosperity in their bilateral relations, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Ahead of the 31st Jordanian-Egyptian Higher Committee session, to be chaired by the prime ministers of both nations, Adaileh highlighted the frequency of diplomatic visits between the two countries as “a testament to their commitment to collaboration, vision sharing and learning”.
He emphasised the session's focus on enhancing cooperation across various sectors, including economy, trade, industry, investment, finance, customs, transportation, health, food and medicine, agriculture, energy and mineral resources, tourism, communications and the digital economy, among others.
Adaileh said the committee agenda seeks to finalise several negotiated agreements, memoranda of understanding and executive programmes.
Despite the last three years of regional challenges and global crises, Adaileh noted that the two nations have successfully prioritised collaboration to effectively mitigate the impact of such crises.
He also expressed his satisfaction with the "strength" of the Jordanian-Egyptian partnership, particularly in the energy, industry, transport, trade and agriculture sectors.
The envoy referred to an increase in trade between the two nations, with Jordanian exports to Egypt amounting to $46.1 million and imports from Egypt reaching approximately $229.3 million in the first quarter of 2023.
Egyptian investments in Jordan were also significant, estimated at around $1 billion, primarily focused in the finance, trade, services and tourism sectors, he said.
In terms of education and culture, Adaileh pointed out that approximately 4,500 Jordanian students are studying at Egyptian universities, with a similar number of Egyptian students enrolled in Jordanian institutions.
The ambassador also highlighted the trilateral collaboration among Jordan, Egypt and Iraq, aimed at supporting and stabilising Iraq while fostering prosperity.
He also referred to the Higher Committee for the Integrated Industrial Partnership for Sustainable Economic Development, which includes Egypt, the UAE, Jordan and Bahrain, as a promising model of multilateral Arab integration.
The ambassador praised the "strong" political coordination between Jordan and Egypt particularly in serving the Palestinian cause, emphasising the persistent efforts of both countries to alleviate the challenges faced by the Palestinian territories and the Gaza Strip.
