AMMAN — The Criminal Court in Ruseifa sentenced seven individuals to seven years of temporary labour each after convicting them of human trafficking.
The court also has imposed a fine of JD5,000 on each offender, at a total of JD35,000.
The verdict can be appealed before the competent court, according to the Jordan news Agency, Petra.
The ruling highlights that the defendants exploited the complainant's financial circumstances and the urgent need for funds to finance a surgical procedure for his daughter, who suffers from a condition in her knee.
The defendants arranged to sell one of the complainant's kidneys, facilitated his transfer to Turkey and took him to the hospital.
As per Article 9 of the 2009 Law on Human Trafficking, individuals involved in the trafficking of a person under the age of 18 or involved in human trafficking-related crimes are subject to a sentence of no less than seven years of temporary labour, plus a fine ranging between JD5,000 to JD20,000.
