AMMAN — Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) personnel have arrested 18 suspected dealers in various cases of the illegal sale and promotion of narcotics around the Kingdom, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported on Saturday.

The AND agents have dealt with 11 cases of selling and promoting narcotics across various governorates, which led to the confiscation of large amounts of narcotics.

In one case, AND personnel seized a sack containing 59,000 Captagon pills which were hidden in a deserted area in Mafraq, 80km northeast of Amman. The forces are currently tracking down the suspects who are still at large.

In Irbid, 80km north of Amman, the AND agents apprehended a suspect who possessed 5,000 narcotic pills and an amount of synthetic cannabis (locally known as joker).

Also in Irbid, three suspects were arrested red-handed while selling narcotics in the street and the substances in their possession were seized.

Meanwhile, AND forces in Ramtha raided a house whose owner was suspected of growing marijuana. During a search of the house, the personnel found 1,000 seedlings.

Meanwhile in the capital, the AND arrested seven suspects in separate cases during which a number of raids were carried out on various houses in Amman, which were suspected of belonging to narcotics dealers.

All arrested suspects have been interrogated in preparation to be referred to the State Security Court's prosecutor.
