1,226 youth find employment through ASEZA in first half of year

AMMAN — The Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) provided 1,226 youth with permanent jobs during the first half of 2019, it said on Thursday.

The ASEZA received 1,971 applications, of which, 1,646 applicants were pursuing positions in Aqaba, while the remaining 325 applied for jobs elsewhere in the Kingdom, ASEZA Chief Commissioner Nayef Bakhit said in a statement carried by the Jordan News Agency, Petra. 

Jobseekers holding qualifications equal to or less than a secondary education amounted to 1,084, while applicants holding a diploma or bachelor’s degree amounted to 142, Bakheet noted, adding that 898 were men and 328 were women. 

Approximately 47 per cent of the jobs filled were in the hotel sector, which witnessed the employment of 307 youth, Bakhit explained, adding that 25 per cent of these positions were in the services sector. 

Around 18 per cent of the new positions were in the industrial sector, which hired 117 new employees, the chief commissioner said, noting that the remaining jobs filled were in the construction, commercial and health sectors. 

According to Bakhit, 300 young people from Aqaba participated in ASEZA training courses on food and beverage handling, 30 people participated in e-tourism courses and another 300 in Mandarin, Russian and English courses.
