12 injured in separate accidents

ZARQA — A police officer was injured in a hit-and-run accident while on duty near the free zone in Zarqa.

The driver did not respond to the officer’s signal to stop and drove away after hitting him, according to a Public Security Department (PSD) source.

The injured officer was transferred to hospital and reported to be in fair condition.

The source added that PSD personnel set up checkpoints in the area and caught the driver, who is reportedly wanted in seven other cases.

Also in Zarqa, 22km east of Amman, a nine-year-old child was injured in a hit-and-run accident in the Iskan Hashim area.

Civil Defence Department (CDD) personnel took the boy to Prince Feisal Hospital, where he was reported to be in critical condition.

A source at the Ruseifa PSD branch said the driver was detained and an investigation was launched into the incident. 

The same source said that PSD personnel seized seven stolen cars and detained the thieves.

Also on Sunday, two citizens sustained injuries as a result of a collision between a medium-sized bus and a tourist bus on the Amman-Zarqa highway. 

CDD personnel transferred the injured to Prince Feisal Hospital, where they were reported to be in fair condition.

In another accident in the Um Al Amad area of Madaba, eight people were injured in a collision between a school bus and pickup truck.

CDD personnel transferred the injured to Al Nadim Public Hospital, and they were reported to be in fair condition.
