‘Tobacco smuggling affects government revenues’ — minister

AMMAN — The increasing phenomenon of smuggling tobacco products into the local market is affecting government revenues negatively, hence the vitality of stiffening penalties to address the trend, Finance Minister Ezzeddine Kanakrieh said on Friday.
Kanakrieh added that the ministry will enforce higher penalties on smugglers, so as to protect the national economy and increase control on border crossings, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. The minister called for joining all efforts to curb this phenomenon.
