‘Ismaani’ programme concludes first phase at Yarmouk University

AMMAN — The first phase of the Dutch-funded “Ismaani” programme which provided specialised training on radio programme production to 20 students from Irbid’s Yarmouk University, concluded on Tuesday.
“Ismaani” (in Arabic “hear me”) is a two-phase programme, funded by The Netherlands, embassy in Amman with the aim of empowering the youth with the necessary media competence and critical thinking skills to be able to discuss and present social issues on radio stations.
The programme was implemented by the International Research and Exchanges Board in partnership with the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD) and Yarmouk University, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Giving a speech at the graduation cermoney, JOHUD Executive Director Farah Daghestani said that that radio broadcast is still significant despite the technological revolution and the facilitated access to information, adding that the fund has established Farah Al Nas Radio to serve as a platform for the young people to express themselves and discuss their issues, according to Petra.
Yarmouk University President Zaidan Kafafi highlighted the importance of professional media to curb rumours and correct misconceptions spread through social media, according to Petra.
Dutch Ambassador to Jordan Barbara Joziasse underlined the need to empower the youth and listen to their say on various issues.
The programmes the 20 students produced will be aired by Farah Al Nas, Yarmouk FM, Mazaj FM, King Hussein Bin Talal University’s Sawt Al Janoub and Mutah University’s Sawt Al Karak radio stations, Petra said.
The programme’s second phase targets 55 young people from the northern and central regions.
