Border Guards foil smuggling attempt, four dead

AMMAN – In the early hours of Thursday, Border Guards clashed with armed smugglers attempting to breach Jordan’s northern border in the Eastern Military Zone.

The confrontation resulted in the deaths of four smugglers, with the remaining attackers fleeing back into Syria after taking advantage of adverse weather conditions and dense fog, to attempt the illegal crossing, according to a Jordan Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) statement.

The Border Guards applied the engagement rules and repelled the attack, seizing large quantities of narcotics, along with an automatic Kalashnikov rifle, which was handed over to the relevant authorities.
