AMMAN — The Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) has announced a new partnership with WEE Pros GmbH, a prominent provider of sustainable engineering solutions, to enhance green construction and water conservation practices in Jordan.

This initiative is part of the “Building Resilience to Cope with Climate Change in Jordan” project and will focus on the governorates of Madaba, Karak, Tafileh and Maan.

The agreement aims to provide technical assistance to local administrations and private sector stakeholders, enabling them to adopt sustainable practices aligned with national policies.

By promoting compliance with green building standards and water-saving measures, the collaboration seeks to foster innovation and cooperation between the public and private sectors.

FAO Representative in Jordan Nabil Assaf emphasised the importance of the partnership, saying: “This marks a significant step forward in promoting sustainable construction and water-saving practices," according to a statement to The Jordan Times.

"Collaborating with WEE Pros GmbH allows us to leverage their expertise, ensuring that local authorities and businesses can meet both national and international sustainability standards,” Assaf added.

The initiative will focus on training local governments and professionals, including masons, plumbers, electricians, and architects. A key component of the program is the inclusion of women technicians and the adoption of gender-sensitive practices to enhance water conservation and climate change adaptation, the statement said.

Participants will receive training on national green construction guidelines and water-saving policies, while also addressing barriers that hinder the implementation of sustainable practices. Workshops will raise awareness of climate change management and budgeting among local administration personnel, promoting a more inclusive approach.

Managing Director and Co-founder of WEE Pros GmbH Feras Matar expressed pride in the collaboration.

“We are excited to partner with FAO on this important initiative," she said in a statement. "At WEE Pros, we believe that innovation and sustainability go hand in hand, and we look forward to helping local governments and businesses achieve their green construction and water conservation goals,” Matar said.

The partnership will soon launch a series of technical workshops and hands-on training sessions designed to strengthen compliance with green construction and water-saving policies.

These efforts align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 6 of Clean Water and Sanitation and SDG 11 of Sustainable Cities and Communities.

This collaboration falls under the BRCCJ project, a seven-year initiative aimed at enhancing climate-resilient sustainable development in Jordan, with a particular focus on improving water management systems and supporting farming communities.

FAO remains committed to aiding the Kingdom in addressing the multifaceted challenges posed by climate change. Through partnerships and innovative solutions, the organisation aims to build a more resilient and sustainable future for generations to come, according to the statement.
