Jordan ‘temporarily’ closes its airspace over 'rising regional risks'

AMMAN — The Civil Aviation Regulatory Commission announced on Tuesday the temporary closure of Jordanian airspace to all incoming, outgoing, and transiting flights, effective immediately, as Iran launched a missile attack on Israel.

Chairman of the commission Haitham Misto said that the decision was in response to the escalating tensions in the region that could endanger flight operations and passenger safety, according to the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

Misto stressed that this precautionary measure is in accordance with international civil aviation safety agreements, including the Chicago Convention, which outlines essential rules and safety standards for civil aviation.

Misto also assured the public that the commission will continuously review the closure in light of ongoing developments and reassess risk levels as necessary.

To ensure that travellers and relevant parties are kept informed, Misto said that airlines are being notified, and data will be updated regularly to provide the latest information regarding the temporary suspension of air traffic.
