AMMAN — Jordanians on Sunday marked His Majesty King Abdullah’s silver jubilee, with joyful celebrations and a positive outlook for future endeavours.

Jubilees mark a major milestone in the reign of a monarch, celebrating their life, service and achievements.

The celebration included public events, national moments of reflection, community gatherings, street fairs and air shows over the Jordanian sky.

Tahseen Bakir, 25, told The Jordan Times on Sunday that “this celebration is a reminder of all ranks of the Hashemite leadership’s loyalty, duty and commitment to the Kingdom and its people.”

Reflecting similar thoughts, Seedra Khatatneh, 33, said that “Jordanians are proud of their leadership which always leaves a positive mark on the world”.

In a region in turmoil, Jordan with its wise leadership which is widely credited with reforms was able to overcome obstacles and achieve success, according to Samah Kharabsheh, 29, who added that “Jordanian people have always been proud to call themselves Jordanians…”

Proclaimed the King on February 7, 1999, His Majesty embarked on major reforms that covered political, social, economic and administrative spheres.

On June 9, Jordanian flags adorned vehicles, houses and storefronts, with Jordanians leading the ceremony with great pride and honour.

In the streets of the capital city of Amman, temporary road closures and detours were implemented in some areas, to give way for the celebrations.
