AMMAN — The Anti-Narcotics Department (AND) on Sunday launched an awareness campaign to warn against the consumption of the deadly illegal narcotics Crystal meth.

AND used various social media means to warn against the use of illegal drugs saying it is a deadly substance that is hard to cure once a person is addicted.

“Individuals could become addicted from the first time they consume the deadly substance," the law-enforcement agency warned.

Crystal meth is the common name for crystal methamphetamine, a strong and highly addictive drug that affects the central nervous system, according to WebMD (https://www.webmd.com/mental-health/addiction/crystal-meth-what-you-should_know#1).

“This deadly substance, also known as Ice and Devil Drug, causes brain loss and unrealistic hallucinations that could lead a person to kill him/herself or kill someone else without knowing what is going around him/her,” AND stated on its Facebook page.

"In addition, the law enforcement agency stated that the consumption of this illegal drug could cause insomnia, nerve damage, aggressive behaviour, depression and increased blood pressure and heart rate,” according to AND.

Crystal meth, which comes in the form of powder or crystal granules, also causes severe aggressive behaviour in its users, AND added.

“Drug dealers trick people into thinking that it is a stimulant and a sexual enhancer substance, but this is all a lie,” according to AND.

The law-enforcement agency urged parents to pay extra attention if they feel that their children’s behaviours are changing or that they show any of the warning symptoms.

“Parents are urged to get their children the immediate proper treatment before he/she loses their life or harms others,” AND stated.

Members of the society are urged to contribute to spreading awareness against this substance and to directly report any information about it and its dealers due to the danger it poses to society and its members, AND stated.
