JHCO prepares another aid convoy in face of border challenges

AMMAN — Despite the Israeli bombardment of the Karam Abu Salem border crossing, which impedes humanitarian supply efforts, the JHCO is preparing its resupply convoy for the people in the Gaza Strip, said Secretary-General of the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organisation (JHCO) Hussein Shibli on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the JHCO in partnership with the World Food Programme (WFP), dispatched a land aid convoy laden with 750 tonnes of life-saving food to the Gaza Strip through the Karam Abu Salem crossing via the King Hussein Bridge, being the first direct aid convoy from Jordan reaching Gaza since the onset of the war.

The organisation’s cooperation with the WFP seeks to have expanded aid into Gaza and regular supply of food, water, medicine, as reported by the Jordan News Agency, Petra.

In current circumstances, JHCO secretary-general said that “the organisation is preparing for another ground convoy, as for the security arrangements they are carried out by the Jordanian Armed Forces-Arab Army”.

Noting that “the first convoy has arrived safely in Gaza, delivering the aid to relevant stakeholders in the strip”,

He reiterated that the organisation will continue to expand its aid assistance to alleviate the growing humanitarian crisis. Noting that civilians in Gaza are in urgent need of well-coordinated assistance efforts that meet their basic humanitarian needs.

“So far, the JHCO has dispatched 22 humanitarian assistance planes and 76 trucks carrying urgent medical aid, relief supplies and food to the enclave.” Shibli told The Jordan Times.

A number of local and international news outlets reported that humanitarian groups and institutions have made pleas for the creation of corridors to allow consistent aid into the enclave.
