US, Japan ‘alarmed’ over shelling near Jordanian field hospital in Gaza, injuries of medical staff

AMMAN — United States Ambassador to Jordan Yael Lempert, on Thursday, reiterated the White House's deep concern over the shelling near Jordan field hospital in Gaza and expressed wishes for a speedy recovery for the wounded medical personnel.

In a tweet on X (formerly twitter), the ambassador said that the United States is committed to the long-standing partnership with Jordan and our Jordanian partners in supporting humanitarian assistance in Gaza. 

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan also tweeted on X, saying 

"We are deeply concerned that Jordanian medical personnel in Gaza were wounded in an attack near their field hospital," 

"We are profoundly grateful to medical professionals providing critical care to Palestinians in Gaza, Their essential role in the conflict must be protected." he said. 

Sullivan followed with another tweet saying "Jordan is a critical ally and we thank King Abdullah and Jordanians for providing support".

Meanwhile, Japan Ambassador to Jordan Okuyama Jiro, on Thursday, expressed Tokyo’s "deep shock” by the injuries caused by the bombing near the Jordanian filed hospital in Gaza.

In a statement carried by Petra, the ambassador said that all parties should comply with international law and international humanitarian law.

“It is necessary to take all possible measures, including humanitarian pauses, in order to prevent harm to civilians in military operations,” he said.

Japan will continue to make diplomatic efforts to improve the circumstances on the ground and de-escalate the situation, the ambassador said.
