Israel’s aggression on Gaza a ‘stain on humanity’ — Senate

AMMAN — The Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip could push the region into more violence and escalation, the Senate said on Wednesday.

In a statement, the Senate called on the international community and all global parliamentary institutions to assume their responsibilities and play their moral and legal role to protect the Palestinian people and stop supplying Israel with the weapons it uses to commit brutal massacres against the Palestinian people, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

The Upper Chamber said that the struggle of the Palestinian people to regain their occupied land is nothing but a natural and legitimate reaction to Israel’s state terrorism and systematic crimes, which violate all international resolutions and humanitarian norms.

The Senate strongly condemned the heinous massacres and war crimes the Israeli occupation commits against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and all the occupied Palestinian territories, the ugliest of which was the attack on Tuesday on the Baptist Hospital,  resulting in the death and injury of hundreds of children, patients and medical personnel.

The Upper House strongly condemned "this Zionist crime that targets children and women, destroys homes, terrorises residents who are safe in their homes, and forcefully displaces them. We deplore the silence of the international community regarding these barbaric and racist Israeli practices."

Israel's adoption of a policy of forced displacement, systematic killing, a scorched earth policy, cutting off water and electricity, starving the Palestinians of Gaza, besieging Palestinian cities and using internationally prohibited weapons violate all international laws and human rights principles, according to the statement.

It pointed out that the silence of the international community and its legal and human rights institutions regarding these massacres and obvious attacks committed by Israel since October 7, which claimed the lives of thousands of people and wounded many others in the Gaza Strip and various occupied Palestinian territories, is nothing but a "stain on humanity", as Israel must be held accountable for its crimes.

The International Criminal Court "must move immediately to investigate these crimes", it added.

The statement reaffirmed the Senate's absolute support for the efforts made by His Majesty King Abdullah in defence of the Palestinian cause and highlighted his efforts at regional and international levels to prevent Israel from continuing its aggressive practices, push the international community to stop this aggression and allow the delivery of humanitarian and medical aid.
