AMMAN — In a session on social protection held during the “A Year of Modernisation” forum, Minister of Social Development Wafa Bani Mustafa announced that eight ministry e-services have been launched this year, with an additional 49 to be launched by the end of the year.

Bani Mustafa also noted that an integrated database of charities has been created, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.

Also addressing the session, Director-General of the National Aid Fund (NAF) Khitam Shneikat explained that the fund’s National Employment Programme has benefitted 4,735 people, with 2,300 programme participants enrolled based on labour market needs.

The programme trains the adult children of NAF beneficiaries to help them enter the labour market. Muhammad Tarawneh, director-general of the Social Security Corporation, noted that the Economic Modernisation Vision is based on raising the quality of life through economic growth and job creation through investment.

In another session titled "Women's Economic Participation," Bani Mustafa, also president of the Ministerial Committee for the Empowerment of Women, announced that the committee launched the Women's Empowerment Strategy within the Economic Modernisation Vision at the beginning of December 2022. The committee initiated a detailed study on the status of women in 10 economic sectors.

She also noted that 14 local community organisations affiliated with the Ministries of Social Development, Industry and Trade have received funding to assist in economically empowering women. The various programmes will train 1,221 women.

Bani Mustafa also highlighted the ministry’s key achievements, including the establishment of nurseries in 11 governorates, financial assistance towards the establishment of five to eight home-based nurseries, the amendment of nursery licensing regulations and the provision of financial incentives for establishing nurseries.

New nurseries created approximately 250 job opportunities in 2022, with additional nurseries expected to provide roughly 2,750 job opportunities by 2025, she said.
